IS ADAM TRELOAR THAT FAR OFF THE FAVOURITES?

We all know the Brownlow is a midfielders’ award, and winning the footy has a strong correlation with polling Brownlow votes. Collingwood’s midfield is extremely strong, especially when you count Brodie Grundy – but Adam Treloar is still the leading disposal winner for the 2019 season averaging 33.85 possessions a game. He’s cleared 30 touches in 17 of his 20 games this season – Tom Mitchell last season did that in only 14 of his 22 games, emphasizing the consistency of Treloar. And the data over the last 10 years suggests Treloar could be in for a big Brownlow night.
Since 2009, 8 of the last 10 disposal leaders have finished top 5 in the Brownlow. The two outliers being Lachie Neale in 2016 where Fremantle only won four games that year, and Tom Rockliff in 2014 who only played 18 games.
Treloar’s best season in his career was 2016 in his first year with the Pies, where he averaged 30.59 disposals a game, ranked 6th in the competition. Although he’s never been a huge poller across his career, that year Treloar managed 21 votes finishing equal fifth.

Downlow on the Brownlow has him potentially polling in 12 games, with 4 of those in the best on ground discussion. Don’t expect Sidebottom to poll like last year with his numbers down, whilst you can put a pen through Dayne Beams and Jordan De Goey this year too. His biggest competition will be Grundy and Pendlebury. Although Treloar only polled 8 votes last season, this is the exact number we had him on, so he certainly didn’t poll below expectation.
Will his sheer weight of numbers put him in the mix for 2019, or will he go against the Brownlow possessions trend?
